David Faustino Now Officially a Parody of Himself
Former Married...With Children star David Faustino (he was snotty, diminutive son Bud Bundy) has crawled out of obscurity to announce that he will be starring in a new online series for Crackle called Star-ving. In it, Faustino will play an "exaggerated" version of himself who runs a porn shop, sees his wife leave him for a rapper and has to beg his entertainment-industry buddies for money. Judging from this preview, the show's going to be pretty rudimentary and crude.
Now, Faustino's recent "career" (full of loads of straight-to-video movies) certainly calls for this level of desperation, and it's nice to see he has a sense of humor about his situation. But hasn't the whole self-deprecating sitcom starring a washed-up star as him or herself been done already? Am I the only one who remembers VH1's So NoTORIous, with Tori Spelling basically doing this exact same thing? Or Jennifer Grey as "Jennifer Grey," the next-door neighbor on ABC's It's Like, You Know... (okay, I probably am the only one who remembers that show)? Even David Hasselhoff had a show like this (called Tales From the Hoff) in development for E! at one point, although there hasn't been any word on it recently. Poor David Faustino is even second-rate at self-mockery.
