'Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns' Premieres Tonight

Normally I'd write up a little preview of the new family comedy premiering tonight on TBS, Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns, but no screeners were available for critics in advance. Usually that's a bad sign, although what it means here is probably just that Meet the Browns is standard Tyler Perry fare. The show is based on Perry's movie and stage play of the same name, and can be expected to feature Perry's trademark mix of broad humor and moralistic preachiness.

Fans of the mega-successful playwright/filmmaker/TV producer, who already has one extremely popular sitcom, House of Payne, airing on TBS, will probably enjoy more of the same in Meet the Browns, while Perry detractors are unlikely to find anything new to convince them of his brilliance. Maybe I didn't need that preview screener after all. Meet the Browns airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on TBS.
