News Bites: 'Earl,' Syndication Deals, 'The Game,' 'Full House' Movie
Wednesday June 17, 2009
A roundup of some recent goings-on in the world of TV comedies:
Despite the best efforts of the cast and producers, My Name Is Earl looks to be finally, completely dead, as negotiations with TBS to pick up new episodes of the show have fallen through. Earl reruns will still have a home on TBS, though.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage have all been picked up for daily syndication in over 70 percent of the country. Christine is a no-brainer for weeknight dinnertime entertainment (like its fellow solid, easily digestible CBS sitcoms The King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond), but the other two shows will likely face serious editing from their original HBO incarnations. Will viewers be interested in cleaned-up versions of Curb and Entourage?
- Its rather desperate 11th-hour effort to transform into an hourlong dramedy didn't pay off, but recently canceled CW sitcom The Game will finally get a DVD release, at least; its first season will be available in stores September 1.
- I thought we had debunked these rumors months ago, but apparently John Stamos has been once again talking up the idea of a Full House movie. This time he's pushing for a reinvention that would cast new actors in the parts originated by Stamos and his co-stars. Please, can somebody make him stop?
