At yesterday's awards presented by the Writers Guild of America, NBC's 30 Rock and ABC's Modern Family split the prizes on the TV comedy side, with 30 Rock taking home the award for comedy series and Modern Family taking home the award for new series. They also tied in the single-episode comedy category, 30 Rock for the episode "Apollo, Apollo," and Modern Family for its pilot. Clearly these will be the two shows to beat come Emmy time (which is still months and months away, though).
I'm still sort of lost as to the appeal of Modern Family, which despite several viewings I've never found particularly funny or entertaining. But it clearly has a great deal of critical and fan support, and although I don't much care for it, at least it's trying to be something creative and clever, unlike a lot of sitcoms on TV right now.
