The nominees for the 64th annual Emmy Awards were announced early this morning, and in the TV comedy categories, newcomers Girls, Veep and New Girl all made strong showings, while longtime favorites 30 Rock, Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory also did well. Modern Family led among comedies with 14 nominations, followed by 30 Rock with 13.
I may not be a big fan of Veep or Girls, but it's always good to see the Academy embracing new shows, and it was great to see Louis C.K. break an Emmy record by garnering seven nominations on his own, for both his FX series Louie and for his stand-up comedy special Live at the Beacon Theater.
