3rd Rock From the Sun chronicles the Earth-bound misadventures of four aliens from an unnamed planet who assume human identities to study the people of Earth. Posing as the Solomon family, the four explorers encounter baffling human customs and try to understand the society in which they’ve found themselves.

History:
3rd Rock From the Sun premiered to ratings success in 1996, although its popularity declined steadily over its six seasons, and it was never one of the top shows on TV. It fared better at awards shows, with star John Lithgow nominated for an Emmy in each of the show’s six seasons, and winning three times. In the show’s sixth season, co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt moved on, appearing in only half the episodes, and 3rd Rock left the air at the end of its sixth season.

3rd Rock From the Sun was created by the husband-and-wife team of Bonnie and Terry Turner, who also created That ’70s Show. The Turners served as executive producers along with the team of Tom Werner, Marcy Carsey and Caryn Mandabach, as well as various other producers during different seasons of the show.
