History:
Based loosely on star Cybill Shepherd’s own life, and heavily influenced by her personality, Cybill debuted on CBS to solid ratings and positive notices in 1995. Although the show continued to draw viewers and acclaim, it drew nearly as much attention for the alleged behind-the-scenes tension between Shepherd and co-star Christine Baranski (who won an Emmy in 1995). CBS canceled Cybill after its fourth season, a decision Shepherd blamed on the network’s disapproval of the show’s feminist perspective.
