'Sex and the City' Profile

Sex and the City follows the lives of four single New York women as they look for love while also maintaining high-powered careers. Old-fashioned romantic Carrie Bradshaw, a newspaper columnist, narrates each episode, relating the romantic trials of herself and her friends Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda.

History:

Sex and the City began as a series of newspaper columns by Candace Bushnell, which were later collected into a book. Producer Darren Star used the book as the inspiration for a half-hour dramedy, which premiered in June 1998 on HBO to high ratings, and became a pop-culture phenomenon. SATC was nominated for over 50 Emmys, winning once for Outstanding Comedy Series and once each for co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon. Four years after the show’s finale in 2004, executive producer Michael Patrick King wrote and directed a Sex and the City movie, which was a worldwide hit. A sequel followed in 2010.
