Beginning with one character's suicide and narrated by her disembodied voice, 'Desperate Housewives' is an unusual drama handled with a deft comic hand.
Is It Worth Watching?
'Desperate Housewives' handles comedy and drama gracefully, even in the same scenes. A classic example of this was the scene at Rex's funeral, when he appeared in the casket wearing his college tie, thanks to his mother. Wife and control freak Bree demanded a funeral guest give up his tie, then hoisted her dead husband up out of the casket to change his clothes.Characters
- Gabrielle, a former model struggling with adjusting to suburban life.
- Bree, a control freak who strives to make her life and family perfect.
- Susan, a divorced single mother and a bit of a clutz (she once locked herself out of the house naked; this is a typical day for her).
- Lynette, a corporate shark who gave up work to stay home with her wild kids. She switched with her husband in Season Two and went back to the grind.
- Edie, the neighborhood vamp, who has a continuing rivalry with Susan.
