The 2013 TV comedy Emmy nominations were led by departing NBC favorite 30 Rock with 13 nominations, the most of any comedy series this year. Fellow departing NBC comedy The Office managed only one major nominations, a writing nod for its finale. Other award favorites including CBS' The Big Bang Theory, HBO's Veep, ABC's Modern Family and FX's Louie received multiple nominations, with Modern Family once again dominating the supporting acting awards. Saturday Night Live also picked up several nominations for its hosts, along with departing player Bill Hader.

Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory and Veep came away as the biggest winners with two awards each in a night that spread out its accolade among comedy series. Although its final season garnered plenty of critical acclaim, 30 Rock took home only one major award, for writing.

The biggest news story this year was the arrival of Netflix as a major player, although in the comedy categories, the streaming service's Arrested Development garnered only three nominations, just one in a major category (a lead acting nomination for Jason Bateman, who didn't win). First-time nominees included Matt LeBlanc of Showtime's Episodes, Adam Driver of HBO's Girls, Laura Dern of HBO's canceled Enlightened and Anna Chlumsky of HBO's Veep, all of whome went home without trophies.

Notably absent this year were 2012 winners Jon Cryer of CBS' Two and a Half Men and Eric Stonestreet of Modern Family, as well as performers from Fox's New Girl. Both Jane Lynch of Fox's Glee and Jane Krakowski of 30 Rock were nominated again after being absent last year.
