The TV comedy nominations for the 2012 Golden Globes featured a mix of newcomers and old favorites. Previous big winner Glee only managed one nomination, while other veteran shows including Modern Family and 30 Rock picked up multiple nods. New presences in the 2012 nominees included Fox's New Girl and its star Zooey Deschanel, as well as HBO's Enlightened and its star Laura Dern, and Showtime's Episodes and its star Matt LeBlanc.
Both Dern and LeBlanc managed to win on their first tries, along with previous favorite Modern Family, which picked up the prize for comedy series on its third nomination.
In the mixed categories for supporting actors, which also include dramas, miniseries and made-for-TV movies, comedies once again made a poor showing, with only Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara of Modern Family picking up nominations against their more serious-minded competition, although they lost out to dramatic performances.
