The TV comedy nominations for the 2013 Golden Globes once again featured a mix of newcomers and old favorites, including some surprising choices. Veteran shows including Modern Family, 30 Rock and The Big Bang Theory picked up multiple nods. New presences in the 2012 nominees included HBO's Girls and its star Lena Dunham, as well as Louis C.K. of FX's Louie.
Girls ended up being the big TV comedy winner of the night, taking home the top award as well as an acting award for star Lena Dunham. Don Cheadle was a surprise win for his starring role on House of Lies.
In the mixed categories for supporting actors, which also include dramas, miniseries and made-for-TV movies, comedies once again made a fairly weak showing, with Max Greenfield of New Girl joining returning nominees Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara of Modern Family against their more serious-minded competition. None of them, however, were able to beat out the dramatic performances.
