The third season of 30 Rock finds both Liz and Jack stumbling through new relationships while having much greater success in their careers. After retaking his place at the top of the network, Jack falls in love with a beautiful Puerto Rican nurse, but he ultimately can’t handle her intensity. Following dating failures with a little person and an international fugitive, Liz has a brief relationship with her hot neighbor, who proves too shallow for her. Jack finds out that he never knew his real father, and reconnects with his biological dad. Liz continues her futile quest to adopt, without results. Jenna tries to increase her fame by starring in an unauthorized biopic about Janis Joplin, Tracy remains insane (and is now insanely rich thanks to the profits from his porn video game), and Kenneth is still the world’s greatest NBC page. Check out all the details in the 30 Rock Season 3 episode guide.

Episode 1
Title:
“Do-Over”
Original Airdate: October 30, 2008

Jack returns to New York from Washington, D.C., determined to retake his position at the head of NBC from the evil Devon Banks. He accomplishes this by first getting re-hired in the mail room and then ickily seducing Kathy Geiss, eventually becoming her official business advisor while Devin is preoccupied with random hook-ups in the park. Meanwhile, Liz continues her quest to adopt, and a woman from the adoption agency comes to the TGS set to evaluate her fitness as a mother. Naturally, things do not go well, and Liz is left back where she started in her adoption efforts.

Episode 2
Title:
“Believe in the Stars”
Original Airdate: November 6, 2008

Flying back from Chicago while doped up on tranquilizers, Liz believes she encounters Oprah Winfrey, who agrees to come to NBC and resolve the dispute between Tracy and Jenna over royalties for Tracy’s porn video game. Instead, it turns out to be a spunky tween named Pam whom Liz mistook for Oprah, but she manages to solve the problem anyway. When Kenneth finds out about NBC’s faked Olympic sports, he loses respect for Jack, and Jack decides to test Kenneth’s strict moral code. In the end, free cable proves to be too much of a temptation, and Kenneth finally cracks.

Episode 3
Title:
“The One With the Cast of Night Court”
Original Airdate: November 13, 2008

Liza and Jenna’s old roommate from Chicago, Claire (Jennifer Aniston) comes to visit, and reels Jack into her web of hot sex and craziness. Liz tries to convince him to break free, but he can’t do it until he hits rock bottom. Meanwhile, Kenneth is sad about the new NBC page uniforms, so to cheer him up Tracy stages a reunion of part of the cast from Kenneth’s favorite show, Night Court. Harry Anderson, Markie Post and Charles Robinson show up as themselves, and they stage Kenneth’s dream finale, with a wedding between Judge Harry Stone and attorney Christine Sullivan.

Episode 4
Title:
“Gavin Volure”
Original Airdate: November 20, 2008

Jack takes Liz to a dinner party at the house of eccentric billionaire Gavin Volure (Steve Martin), who takes a liking to her. It turns out he’s not really an agoraphobe with an aversion to physical contact; he’s actually serving house arrest for fraud, racketeering and other charges. This creates problems for Jack, who’s invested Kenneth’s life savings in Gavin’s latest scam. Gavin escapes and declares his love for Liz, but she rejects him. Tracy thinks his sons are trying to kill him, so he uses the lifelike Tracy Jordan sex doll to fake them out. Tracy’s wrong about his kids, but the sex doll proves a useful decoy to help take down Gavin.

Episode 5
Title:
“Reunion”
Original Airdate: December 4, 2008

Don Geiss wakes from his coma and announces that he will be staying on as CEO, which devastates Jack, who ends up tagging along with Liz to her high-school reunion in Pennsylvania. Depressed Jack pretends to be one of Liz’s classmates to experience the happiness of average people, but when that guy’s ex-girlfriend reveals a long-lost son, Jack comes clean and he and Liz high-tail it out of there. Back at 30 Rock, Tracy and Jenna conspire to take Kenneth down when his corny jokes in the elevator threaten to upstage them.

Episode 6
Title:
“Christmas Special”
Original Airdate: December 11, 2008

After accidentally running over his mother at her home in Florida, Jack is stuck taking care of her during the holidays. To avoid having to spend time with his mother, he forces the TGS staff to prepare a last-minute Christmas special. Liz also forces a Christmas activity on the staff, making everyone buy presents that poor children have asked for in letters to Santa Claus. She goes overboard with hers, and thinks she’s been scammed when a pair of adults pick up the presents, only to find out otherwise when she returns to accuse them.

Episode 7
Title:
“Senor Macho Solo”
Original Airdate: January 8, 2009

Jack faces mortality when he discovers a benign lump in his testicle, and his newfound fear of loneliness leads him into the arms of his mother’s new nurse (Salma Hayek). In her baby-crazy state, Liz mistakes a little person (Peter Dinklage) for a child; they then start dating, but her neuroses are too much for him. Jack tries to convince Tracy to sign a post-nuptial agreement with his wife, but Tracy ends up tossing the agreement and jumping his wife right in Jack’s office. And Jenna campaigns desperately for the lead role in a Janis Joplin biopic, only to discover that a competing project has already signed Julia Roberts.

Episode 8
Title:
“Flu Shot”
Original Airdate: January 15, 2009

As a flu epidemic ravages the staff, Liz refuses to get one of the flu shots offered by Dr. Spaceman, since they aren’t available to the TGS crew. But when her annual vacation to St. Bartlebys seems to be in jeopardy, she relents and gets the shot, and the crew turns against her. Jack has trouble finding time to spend with new love Elisa, so he has her bring the vegetative old man she’s caring for along on their dates, in order not to miss out on the relationship like he did in the past with C.C.
