Liz starts hooking up with new TGS cast member Danny, and Jack is annoyed because Danny is the first TGS staffer with whom he can hang out and do guy things, like go to sporting events. Eventually Jack claims to be in love with Liz in order to get Danny to stop seeing her. In anticipation of having a daughter, Tracy decides to add a woman to his entourage, and picks female writer Sue, quickly becoming overprotective of her. When Jenna is cast as the mother of a teen on Gossip Girl, she starts to freak out about her age.

Everyone in the office is on edge because of the cold weather, so Liz and Pete concoct a plan to take TGS on the road to Miami, but Jack derails it to Boston so he can spend time with Nancy. The staff blames Liz for all their problems, so she makes up a fake NBC executive to serve as a scapegoat, except he turns out to be a real person who works at the TV station in Boston. Jack tries to push Nancy to sell her house so she can get divorced, but she isn’t ready for that kind of change yet.

Jenna’s deadbeat mom, Verna (Jan Hooks), comes to visit, and Jack tries to offer Jenna strategies to cope from his experience with his own mother. But Jenna succumbs to her mother’s passive-aggressive manipulations via a surprise birthday party and a mother-daughter duet, so when Verna tries to extort Jack for a reality show with Jenna, he keeps quiet and pays Verna off, letting Jenna think her mother has really changed. Liz tries to quit junk food, and Frank tries to quit smoking, but only Frank has the fortitude to follow through.

Liz schedules a root canal on Valentine’s Day so she can avoid the holiday, but can’t find anyone to take her home after the procedure. Jack appears on a financial talk show and is smitten with hot host Avery Jessup (Elizabeth Banks) and sets out to seduce her. Jenna is upset that she hasn’t heard from her stalker as Valentine’s Day approaches, and when she confronts him he says he’s moved on.

Liz discovers a number in her phone labeled “Future Husband,” but doesn’t remember meeting the man because she was drugged for her root canal. She contacts the man, Wesley (Michael Sheen), and although they don’t hit it off, they agree to keep seeing each other because they must have felt a connection while sedated. Via Avery, Jack gets a tip that NBC is being sold to cable company Kabletown, and he panics when he learns that his mentor Don Geiss has died. He fears he’s losing his position with the company, until Avery reports a rumor that he’s the frontrunner to be the new head of NBC.

Jack is distressed when he learns that new NBC parent company Kabletown has no interest in innovation thanks to its lucrative revenue stream of on-demand porn, and worries his days of business trailblazing are over. But while giving the eulogy at Don Geiss’ funeral, he has an epiphany and comes up with a new business idea for Kabletown: on-demand videos of attractive men who will listen to women complain. Liz keeps dating Wesley even though they can’t stand each other, but she finally puts a stop to it when he suggests they should just settle for what they have and get married.

Liz is excited that her ex-boyfriend Floyd is in town, until she learns that he’s getting married and is trying to win the chance to have his wedding broadcast on the Today show. Floyd makes a fool of himself after Liz accidentally gets him drunk, but instead of taking her revenge, Liz apologizes to Floyd’s fiancée and ends up a member of their wedding party. Frank, Toofer and Lutz play a prank on Danny, which sets off a war of pranks when Danny goes to Jack for help getting back at them.

Jack is happy with his relationship with Avery, but Nancy suddenly shows up and announces that she’s divorced. He decides to pursue both and see which one pans out. Nancy ends up leaving town before he can decide, so he just puts the decision off some more. Liz starts going to singles activities at her local community center, and Jenna enlists herself as Liz’s wingwoman. Toofer quits TGS when he learns that he was hired as part of a diversity program, but then Liz hires him back as a regular employee.

Jack decides to buckle down and choose between Avery and Nancy, but he can’t handle it, so he gets involved in a dispute between janitors instead. Liz gets upset when she discovers that the whole staff goes out every week without her. To prove she’s fun, she decides to throw an engagement party for Cerie and require everyone to attend. Tracy’s wife is put on bed rest due to complications in her pregnancy, and at first he charges Kenneth with taking care of her, but when she demands Tracy, he decides to learn to be a better husband.

“Argus”

Jack finds out that Don Geiss left him Argus, Geiss’ pet peacock, in his will. Liz gets Kenneth to convince Jack that Argus is Geiss reincarnated, so that Jack can properly grieve. Jenna has a weird new boyfriend (Will Forte), and Liz and Pete discover that he’s a drag-queen Jenna impersonator. Grizz announces that he’s getting married, and Tracy insists on being the best man to save Dot-Com the awkwardness, since he’s in love with Grizz’s fiancée. To smooth things over, Liz talks to Grizz, and she somehow ends up being enlisted as the new best man.
