Andy is worried that the office has not met its sales quota, and needs to make $800 more in sales immediately. So he drags all the employees to Oscar’s trivia contest at a gay bar in Philadelphia in hopes of winning a $1,000 prize. Somehow the team of Meredith, Kevin, Kelly and Erin wins the prize. Dwight travels to Sabre headquarters in Florida to meet with Robert California about a possible manager position in Sabre’s printers division. After Robert blows him off, Dwight tracks him down at home, but Robert refuses to give Dwight the job.

Robert decides to sell his huge house in Scranton, and Kevin convinces him to throw a pool party for the office before the real estate company starts to show the house. At the party, Erin tries to make Andy jealous by flirting with Dwight. Andy accidentally drops the engagement ring he’s been carrying for his girlfriend Jessica and doesn’t want to admit that it’s his. Erin returns the ring to Andy, and he admits he’s confused about his romantic situation. Robert gets increasingly drunk and laments the crazy sex parties he’d imagined he’d have in the house.

Jim returns from jury duty, and has to make up details of the case because he was actually dismissed early and took several days off to help Pam with the kids. Dwight is determined to prove that Jim didn’t actually serve on the case, and Jim admits it because he can’t keep up the lie. Everyone is upset with him, but they forgive him after he brings his kids into the office. Angela has her baby, and Dwight believes that the baby is his, not the Senator’s.

Dwight is assigned a three-week special project back at corporate in Tallahassee, Florida, and Andy won’t allow him to take the people he wants. Everyone in the office campaigns to get to go on the trip, and Andy designates Stanley, Erin, Cathy, Ryan and Jim to go, which makes Dwight very upset. When he calms down, he realizes he actually has a decent team. Darryl tries to figure out whether Val from the warehouse is really into him or not.

The Tallahassee team works with Nellie Bertram (Catherine Tate), who had applied to be the manager of the Scranton branch and is now the president of special projects for Sabre. Dwight has to have his appendix removed, but he leaves the hospital and returns to work so he can compete with Todd Packer for the position of vice president of special projects under Nellie. Back in Scranton, Andy fills in for Erin at reception and gets way too enthusiastic about it.

In Tallahassee, Dwight and Todd Packer both try to charm Nellie in hopes of scoring the vice president position. Dwight has the chance to sleep with Nellie but thinks better of it at the last minute, deciding he doesn’t want to land the job that way. Cathy puts Jim in an awkward position by blatantly coming on to him. In Scranton, everyone has to stay late to pick up the slack for the people who are in Tallahassee. Val’s boyfriend accuses Darryl of sleeping with her.

The Tallahassee crew is working the opening of the prototype Sabre store and trying to cultivate positive media coverage. Ryan cracks under the pressure of giving a presentation at the store, and Dwight begs Jim to fill in. Despite the setbacks, Dwight ends up with the vice president position he’s been coveting. In Scranton, Andy is attacked by a group of belligerent middle-schoolers, and he tells everyone in the office that he was jumped by a gang, and enlists Toby to teach self-defense.

Title: “Last Day in Florida”

Both Darryl and Toby are selling cookies in the office for their daughters’ scout troops, and they compete for Kevin’s business. Robert decides to kill the Sabre retail division, so Dwight loses out on his promotion. Jim keeps Dwight from giving the retail presentation, and thus saves Dwight from getting fired (Robert fires Todd Packer instead). Erin gets a job caring for a senior citizen in Tallahassee and tells Andy that she’s moving to Florida, and he decides to go to Florida to get her back.

Title: “Get the Girl”

Nellie shows up in Scranton to work at the Dunder Mifflin office there and attempts to take over as manager, since Andy is in Florida working to win Erin back. Erin turns Andy down at first but then declares her love for him and agrees to return with him to Scranton. Robert allows Nellie to act as manager since Andy isn’t around. She gives all of the employees raises to get them on her side, and Jim is the only holdout who refuses to accept her.

Title: “Welcome Party”

Robert orders everyone else in the office to throw a welcome party for Nellie. The employees plan a mean-spirited party for Nellie, but when Dwight and Jim learn about Nellie’s past heartbreak, they try to stop people from being inconsiderate. Andy and Erin go to Jessica’s parents’ house so Andy can break up with her, and they discover that Jessica’s sister is having a bachelorette party. Andy can’t bring himself to tell Jessica that he’s dating Erin, so he tells her that he’s gay. Erin is upset that he wasn’t honest, so he returns and tells Jessica the truth.

Andy and Erin return from Florida, and Nellie refuses to vacate the manager’s office or give up her position. Andy gets fed up with the way he’s being treated and flies into a rage. Robert officially demotes Andy back to sales and makes Nellie the permanent manager. When Andy refuses to accept the decision, he gets fired. Jim and Pam set Kelly up with their pediatrician, which makes Ryan extremely jealous. Kelly tells Ryan she’s staying with her new boyfriend, but she still can’t resist Ryan’s hold over her.

Angela's husband the state senator hosts a benefit for a local animal shelter, and Robert buys two tables for everyone in the office. Andy shows up as Erin's date and goes overboard trying to convince everyone he's fine, which involves volunteering to adopt 12 sick, elderly dogs. Finally he admits that his life is falling apart, and some of the other employees adopt the dogs to make up for his bad idea. Dwight misunderstands the silent auction and accidentally buys every item available. Oscar is convinced that the senator is hitting on him. Nellie attempts to bond with Darryl.

Robert gets drunk after his divorce is finalized and impulsively closes down a branch in Binghamton, New York, and Dwight and Jim compete with a salesman from Syracuse for the shuttered branch’s clients. Andy swoops in and steals the biggest client first. Andy then tries to use that leverage to get rehired, but when Robert refuses, Andy recruits David Wallace to help with a takeover of Dunder Mifflin. Robert enlists Pam to help him find out what drunken message he left on Nellie’s phone.

Title: “Free Family Portrait Studio”

Andy comes to the office acting pathetic as a ruse so that he can dramatically reveal that David Wallace has bought Dunder Mifflin from Sabre and is reinstating Andy as the manager of the Scranton branch. Andy misses his dramatic moment, but David does announce the purchase and also announces that Sabre is being liquidated, so Robert will no longer be with the company. Dwight offers the tenants of the building free family portraits, and uses that as an opportunity to get a sample of Angela’s baby’s DNA so he can prove that he’s the father.
