“The Politics of Human Sexuality”

Annie helps the dean put on an STD-awareness fair, and reveals her prudishness when she’s charged with demonstrating proper condom use. Shirley and Britta help her break into the dean’s office to practice on a dummy, but they end up getting caught. Pierce brings an escort as a date to the fair, and challenges Jeff to find a date as well. Jeff hooks up with the dean’s vapid new secretary, but realizes that he’s looking for something more than hook-ups. Troy gets really competitive when he discovers that Abed is freakishly good at athletic feats.

Jeff defends Abed from the Greendale bully (guest star Anthony Michael Hall) and winds up in a fight with the guy. Shirley throws a Christmas party and tries to push her religion on everyone. She bans Jeff from the party for fighting, and can’t handle the religious traditions of others. When Jeff is getting pummeled, though, the whole gang comes to his rescue. Everyone passes the Spanish final and moves on to Spanish 102, also taught by Senor Chang.

Jeff returns for the new semester determined to be more laid-back, but an annoying fellow Spanish student named Buddy (guest star Jack Black) who wants to join the study group tests Jeff’s patience, along with everyone else’s. Jeff is also named the editor of the reborn Greendale student newspaper, with Annie as one of his reporters. When Annie gets a scoop that could cost the dean his job, Jeff’s cool exterior cracks, and he demands she drop the story, right after he physically ejects Buddy from the study group.

“Interpretive Dance”

Troy and Britta have been taking dance classes without telling anyone, and Jeff is still secretly hooking up with his former statistics teacher, Prof. Michelle Slater. When Troy and Britta discover each other at the dance studio, they agree to tell the gang together, but Troy chickens out, until he comes to Britta’s rescue at the last minute when she freezes up at the dance recital. Jeff’s relationship causes problems with the dean when it’s discovered, and Jeff freaks out when Michelle wants to declare them officially boyfriend and girlfriend, but eventually he realizes he can handle it.

“Romantic Expressionism”

Annie has a crush on Vaughn and asks Britta for her approval to date him. Britta agrees, but then Jeff points out that dating Vaughn makes Annie seem easy, and Jeff and Britta try to get Troy to break them up. Troy realizes he likes Annie, but the plan backfires because Annie would rather date Vaughn. Jeff and Britta realize their mistake, and Annie gets back together with Vaughn. Pierce joins Troy and Abed’s bad-movie night and gets upset because all his jokes fall flat.

Britta drunk-dials Jeff one night, and then feels really uncomfortable around him. Abed tells Jeff that the only way to set things right is for Jeff to drunk-dial Britta back. It succeeds, but then causes problems for Jeff with Michelle, until Britta intervenes and assures Michelle that Jeff is only a friend. After Senor Chang humiliates Troy and Pierce for sending themselves Valentine’s Day presents, Shirley and Annie decide to get back at him, but it backfires, and he just tortures Troy and Pierce further.

The gang tracks down a girl they think has a crush on Abed, but it turns out that her boyfriend just looks like a white version of Abed. Everyone is worried that Abed will be crushed by being rejected, but he’s actually a secret chick magnet, and doesn’t need anyone’s help to score. Jeff takes a billiards class in which he is forced to wear an embarrassing phys-ed uniform that throws off his game. He challenges the coach to prove that he cares more about the game than his clothes, and eventually beats the guy while playing completely naked.

“Basic Genealogy”

Michelle dumps Jeff, and he acts like he’s okay with it. It’s Family Day at Greendale, so Shirley’s two rambunctious sons, Abed’s judgmental dad and repressed cousin, and Troy’s mean grandmother all come visit. Pierce brings his ex-stepdaughter Amber (Katharine McPhee), with whom he has trouble connecting. He enlists Jeff to help him bond with Amber, but instead Jeff and Amber end up having sex. Jeff discovers that Amber is milking Pierce for money and decides to help Pierce rather than run off with Amber.

Episode 19

“Beginner Pottery”
Original Airdate: March 18, 2010

Jeff signs up for a pottery class because it’s easy to blow off, but when a cool guy in class starts getting all the attention with his amazing skills, Jeff gets competitive. Jeff obsesses over revealing his rival as a fraud, but eventually has to accept that he can’t be the best at everything. Shirley, Troy and Britta join Pierce in his sailing class on a boat in the parking lot, and the hard-nosed instructor tells them to leave Pierce behind when he falls overboard. But Shirley, as captain, braves the imaginary storm to rescue Pierce.

Episode 20

“The Science of Illusion”
Original Airdate: March 25, 2010

It’s April Fool’s Day, and the gang pranks Pierce by convincing him to do increasingly ridiculous things in the name of the crazy cult he belongs to. Britta tries to play a harmless prank to prove she’s not a buzzkill, but it goes horribly wrong and causes a campus-wide manhunt. Annie and Shirley get deputized as security officers and bicker about which one is more of a badass. Britta frames Jeff for her prank, but then cracks under pressure from Annie and Shirley and admits the truth.
