The Big Bang Theory follows Leonard and Sheldon, who are geeks, roommates, friends and highly intelligent physics professors at CalTech, but their social skills leave much to be desired. While they spend plenty of time with their nerd buddies, the arrival of beautiful and sociable new neighbor Penny across the hall throws their lives into chaos, and opens them up to new possibilities.

The Big Bang Theory premiered to strong ratings and positive reviews, and was quickly picked up by CBS for a full season. Its first season was cut short by the 2007-2008 Hollywood writers’ strike, and lasted only 17 episodes instead of 22. Early in the show's third season, CBS announced a fourth-season pick-up, thanks to continued strong ratings, and a fifth season followed.
