Tyler Perry’s House of Payne follows the lives of the various members of the working-class Payne family, several generations of whom all live in the same house. This Atlanta, Georgia, clan is led by lazy patriarch Uncle Curtis, who often tries unsuccessfully to get rid of nephew C.J. and his family.
House of Payne is based on the enormously successful stage and film work of creator Tyler Perry. It premiered in 2006 with a 10-episode test run in limited syndication, following which TBS ordered an unprecedented 100 episodes. The show played both in first-run syndication and on TBS until June 2007, and now new episodes air exclusively on TBS. It’s consistently been one of the highest-rated shows on cable since its premiere.
