United States of Tara follows the complicated life of suburban mom Tara Gregson, who’s raising two teenagers, trying to stay connected to her husband and working on her painting career. She also suffers from dissociative identity disorder, better known as multiple personalities, and her other sides, called “alters,” come to the fore at moments of stress and crisis.

History:
United States of Tara is based on an idea originally conceived by executive producer Steven Spielberg, who hired Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody to develop it into a full-fledged series. The show premiered in January 2009 to generally positive reviews, paired with Showtime’s airings of the British series Secret Diary of a Call Girl. After three seasons, Showtime canceled the show due to declining ratings.
