Married to fellow former Saturday Night Live player Brad Hall since 1987; they have two sons, Henry and Charles.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Early Career:
Julia Louis-Dreyfus studied theater at Northwestern University in Illinois, but left before finishing her degree to become a cast member on Saturday Night Live. She worked on SNL alongside future husband Brad Hall (whom she met at Northwestern) from 1982-1985, during the era when creator Lorne Michaels had left the show. After SNL, she had small roles in various movies, and was a cast member of the short-lived sitcom Day by Day, a Family Ties spinoff.
‘Seinfeld’:
Louis-Dreyfus met Seinfeld co-creator Larry David while working on Saturday Night Live, and was cast as Jerry Seinfeld’s ex-girlfriend Elaine Benes on the comedian’s landmark NBC sitcom. She played Elaine for nine seasons on Seinfeld, from 1990-1998, garnering seven Emmy nominations and one win (in 1996) for the role. Seinfeld ended its run as one of the most popular TV shows of all time, making stars out of all of its cast members.
‘The New Adventures of Old Christine’:
After Seinfeld, Louis-Dreyfus starred on the NBC sitcom Watching Ellie, created by her husband Brad Hall. Ellie lasted only 16 episodes over two seasons, falling prey to the so-called “Seinfeld curse” that doomed many post-Seinfeld projects from the show’s stars to failure. In 2006, Louis-Dreyfus began starring as newly divorced mother Christine Campbell on the CBS sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine. New Adventures broke the Seinfeld curse, lasting five seasons and bringing Louis-Dreyfus another three Emmy nominations and one win (in 2006) for her performance.
