On 30 Rock, Tracy Jordan (played by Tracy Morgan) is the resident raging id, saying whatever comes into his head, making absurd demands on his ever-faithful sidekicks Grizz and Dot Com (as well as Kenneth the page) and generally acting without regard for anyone else’s feelings or needs. He’s also a bit of a naïve, overgrown child, which makes him endearing even as he’s throwing tantrums or exhibiting a lack of understanding of basic societal norms.
Tracy Jordan's Family Life:
Tracy has been married to his wife Angie (played by Sherri Shepherd in numerous episodes) for nearly 20 years, and although he often parties with strippers and various hot women, he claims never to have cheated on Angie. After separating briefly, they’re back together and very close despite their problems. Tracy and Angie have two sons, Tracy Jr. (played in several episodes by Bobb’e J. Thompson) and George Foreman, whom Tracy alternately resents and relies on. Tracy’s childhood is shrouded in mystery, although he has referenced growing up poor and being raised by a single mother.
Career Before 'TGS':
Tracy was a cast member on a Nickelodeon show as a kid, and was discovered while performing stand-up comedy in 1984. He rose to fame as the star of a number of awful, gimmicky movies that nevertheless made tons of money and financed his extravagant lifestyle. When his star began to wane, he was recruited by Liz Lemon (Tina Fey), at the command of network executive Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), to join the cast of NBC sketch-comedy show The Girlie Show (subsequently renamed TGS With Tracy Jordan).
Tracy remains the primary star of TGS, along with Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski). His movie career is mostly on hold, but he did create a lucrative porn video game, and has no shortage of income. He’s a frequent guest on TV talk shows, and occasional recording artist.
