I beg to differ...Roseanne finale
- I could not disagree more with your summary of the Roseanne finale! Having the Connor family win the lotto jackpot was a perfect subject matter for the show's target audience, the blue collar middle-class families. We all dream of winning the lottery and what that would mean for our families. Beyond the fun of buying cool "stuff" and going on fab vacations, to the things we would provide for them if we could. I remember my mother crying during the scene where they burn the mortgage. But, it also showed the un-glamorous things that we never daydream about; a subtle reminder that money does not, in fact, buy happiness. A correction: the finale does not have the ENTIRE show a daydream, but only the part from after Dan's heart attack. In reality, Dan dies, and Roseanne is left alone to care for her family. It is solitary and sad that she becomes a single parent in that way, but reinforces the need for her novel, in which she "rewrites" her family's story to a happier fantasy.
